As an Arborist Team Leader (COSS) within our Rail Arboriculture team, you will lead the safe and efficient delivery of de‑vegetation works across rail sites throughout the Midlands and Yorkshire. You will play a central role in coordinating on‑site operations, supervising your team, and ensuring all work meets the highest safety and quality standards.
As our Arborist Team Leader (COSS), you will:
- Interpret project requirements and plan the effective delivery of all railway de‑vegetation activities.
- Ensure all works are completed safely and to a high standard, in line with internal procedures and industry regulations.
- Safely supervise a small team, carrying out Risk Assessments, delivering Team Briefings and ensuring compliance with safe working methods.
- Operate and oversee the use of plant, tools and equipment, maintaining excellent standards of care (including pre‑use checks, defect escalation and recording).
- Lead the safe removal and clearance of vegetation in line with contract requirements, accurately identifying tree species and ensuring all sites are left clean and tidy.
- Respond professionally and sensitively to queries from lineside residents.
- Follow all relevant health, safety and environmental procedures and ensure your team does the same.
- Report any incidents or Close Calls immediately to the appropriate contact.
Skills & Experience
- Recent experience working as an operative in vegetation clearance within the railway environment.
- Strong climbing and working‑at‑height skills.
- Competencies including: PTS, COSS, Chainsaw qualifications, Aerial Rescue, Lead Climber, and Chainsaw from Rope & Harness.
- Experience in leading, coaching, mentoring and developing a team.
