Assistant Psychologist Band 5 position – 12 month fixed term contract -
working across both the Critical Care Psychology Service (0.6 WTE) and the Occupational Health and Staff Wellbeing Psychology Service (0.4 WTE) at LNWH NHS Trust.
The ICU post will most suit a candidate who is keen to develop their psychological skills to support patients, families and staff within a highly stimulating acute medical environment. This opportunity sits within a Critical Care Service covering a 24 bedded ICU in Northwick Park Hospital (NPH) and an 13 bedded ICU in Ealing Hospital (EH). The candidate will work as part of a psychology team with 2 qualified
psychologists.
The Occupational Health and Staff Wellbeing Psychology Service has 2.6 wte Practitioner Psychologists working within a MDT. The service aims to support staff wellbeing; proactively promoting both the physical and mental health of the workforce. The team work with staff both individually and on a group level with teams/ departments to promote a psychologically healthier workplace. The Assistant Psychologist will be largely based at NPH for this part of the role.
Within our Trust, psychologists have professional leadership, and support each other, through the Psychological Services Network (PSN). This network links all psychological practitioners together in the Trust, including APs.

To work within professional guidelines and under the direct supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist to deliver, support and enhance the provision of psychological care for patients, families and staff of London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. Both the Critical Care Service and the Occupational Health Service are based on all three sites: Northwick Park Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital, and Ealing Hospital, with both primary bases being at Northwick Park.
- To take responsibility for clinically related administration, managing patient records, database and activity recording for the ICU and OH psychology services, collection of statistics, development and conduct of audit and/or research projects, teaching in relation to psychological wellbeing and other activities related to clinical governance.
- To support staff wellbeing initiatives of all kinds throughout the Trust under the direct supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.
- To work under supervision of qualified psychologists in critical care - to be patient and family facing, and support clinical work as per directed and within clinical abilities of the AP.
