About the Role
Thompsons UK Ltd are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Level 2 Apprentice Welder. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in welding and fabrication while working towards a recognised qualification with East Surrey College.
The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in a busy engineering environment, supporting a range of welding and fabrication tasks while developing essential practical skills and knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with welding and fabrication tasks using a range of materials and techniques
- Learn and apply welding processes such as MIG, TIG, and MMA (as training progresses)
- Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, cleaning, and positioning
- Read and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications
- Inspect welded components to ensure quality standards are met
- Maintain tools, equipment, and welding work areas to a high standard
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including the use of PPE
- Work as part of a team and follow instructions from experienced welders and supervisors
Training and Development
- Attend East Surrey College on a day or block release basis to complete the Level 2 Welding Apprenticeship
- Receive structured on-the-job training at Thompsons UK Ltd
- Develop knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and safety procedures
- Gain practical experience working on real engineering projects
Requirements
- Interest in welding, fabrication, or engineering
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English preferred
- Practical mindset and willingness to learn new skills
- Good attention to detail and a focus on quality
- Reliable, punctual, and motivated
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday
Rate of Pay: £9.00ph
Pay: From £9.00 per hour
