Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Executive specialising in Structural Steel (Main Focus), Joinery, and Interiors. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding our client base, fostering strong relationships, and driving sales growth within the construction and interior fit-out sectors. Key Responsibilities
- Generate new business opportunities for William Fry’s structural steel division.
- Contact prospective customers by telephone, email, LinkedIn, and other channels.
- Build relationships with contractors, developers, housebuilders, builders, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, and commercial clients.
- Identify and qualify structural steel enquiries and project opportunities.
- Book meetings, site visits, and project discussions with key decision-makers.
- Gather project information, drawings, specifications, measurements, and customer requirements to support estimating and quotation preparation.
- Liaise with internal estimating, design, fabrication, and project teams to progress opportunities.
- Support the preparation, issue, and follow-up of quotations and proposals.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, including calls, emails, follow-ups, opportunities, and pipeline activity.
- Develop and manage a pipeline of new structural steel prospects and live opportunities.
- Follow up inbound enquiries and convert them into qualified opportunities.
- Support targeted outreach campaigns to construction companies, developers, and professional contacts.
- Monitor market activity, competitor offerings, and upcoming construction opportunities.
- Meet and exceed agreed activity, pipeline, and revenue targets.
- Identify opportunities to introduce clients to William Fry’s wider services where appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is confident, commercially aware, organised, and motivated by winning new business.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in business development, sales development, telesales, inside sales, or account management.
- Experience selling into the construction sector, ideally structural steel, steel fabrication, construction products, building materials, fit-out, subcontracting, or related services.
- Confidence speaking with contractors, developers, builders, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, and project decision-makers.
- A good understanding of construction sales processes and project-based enquiries.
- The ability to read or understand drawings, specifications, schedules, or project requirements at a commercial level.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility quickly.
- A proactive, persistent, and professional approach to lead generation and follow-up.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple enquiries, calls, emails, quotations, and follow-ups.
- Experience using a CRM system to manage leads and opportunities.
- A target-driven mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- An interest in structural steel, construction, fabrication, and project delivery.
Experience in structural steel or steel fabrication sales would be a strong advantage, but applicants with wider construction sales experience will also be considered.
