Behaviour Support Assistant - Southampton
Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential? Do you have a background in sports coaching, PE, youth work, mentoring, or behaviour support?
We are seeking a resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Alternative Provision in Southampton, supporting children and young people who may have experienced barriers to education and require additional behavioural and emotional support.
At our provision, we aim to equip children and young people with the skills and confidence they need to transition successfully into adulthood. We believe this is achieved through an inclusive, safe, and supportive educational environment that promotes independence, resilience, belonging, and respect.
The Role
This is a highly rewarding role for someone who can build strong relationships with young people, remain calm under pressure, and confidently manage challenging behaviour. You will support students both academically and emotionally, helping them re-engage with education and develop the skills needed for future success.
A sports background would be highly advantageous, as many of our students respond positively to positive role models who can motivate, inspire, and encourage them through structured activities and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using a calm and consistent approach.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
- Support learning both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Encourage engagement, resilience, and personal development.
- Act as a positive role model at all times.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support student progress.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and supporting students with additional needs.
- A background in sports coaching, PE, youth work, mentoring, residential care, or behaviour support is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Resilience, patience, and a proactive attitude.
- A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
What We Offer
- A rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference.
- A supportive and experienced team.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities.
- The opportunity to help young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.
If you're a strong role model who thrives on building relationships, managing challenges positively, and helping young people reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
