Job Overview
We are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team on a full-time, temp-to-perm basis.
This is a field-based role covering projects across England, so applicants must be comfortable travelling nationally and staying away from home when required. The ideal candidate would be based around Manchester, the Midlands or a surrounding area, allowing reasonable access to both northern and southern projects.
Current and upcoming project locations include areas such as Lancaster, Leicester and the South Coast, so applicants should be realistic about the travel involved before applying.
This is an excellent opportunity for an established Project Engineer to further develop their skillset, work on high-quality mechanical projects, and become part of a motivated, resourceful and industry-leading mechanical team.
The Role
The successful candidate will be client-facing and will attend daily DABs / coordination meetings with clients, main contractors and third parties, either independently or alongside the wider project team.
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing mechanical installation works on site, ensuring subcontract labour, materials, programme requirements and system design are properly managed.
Key responsibilities will include:

- Working collaboratively with clients, main contractors and third parties to achieve practical resolutions
- Maintaining daily QA and Health & Safety documentation
- Maintaining the onsite Health & Safety file
- Booking deliveries through the relevant site portal
- Ensuring works are carried out in line with legal and site-specific Health & Safety requirements
- Supporting testing and commissioning activities when required
Due to the nature of the systems and projects, the successful candidate may occasionally be required to work out of hours during testing and commissioning stages.
Experience and Qualifications
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Successful site management experience on behalf of, or alongside, established main contractors
- Proven experience managing large teams
- Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary mechanical systems
- Ability to read, monitor and mark up technical pipework schematics
- Strong QA and Health & Safety focus
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for commuting
A background in commercial plumbing, sprinklers or similar mechanical systems would provide a strong foundation for this role.
Preferred Experience
The following would be beneficial:
- Experience working on MOJ / MOD projects
- Water mist system experience
- SMSTS
- NVQ Level 6
- In-date CSCS Black Card
- IOSH qualification
