About the role
We are looking for kind, reliable and emotionally invested Complex Care Support Workers to support JM, a warm and affectionate 8-year-old boy with a progressive neurodegenerative condition, Niemann-Pick Disease Type C.
This is not a “drop in and out” care role. JM's family are looking for people who can become a trusted and consistent part of his life. He needs carers who will build a genuine bond with him, work closely with his parents, and become part of a small, familiar support team around him.
JM's loves music, singing, dancing, water play, sensory activities and being outdoors. He enjoys direct human interaction and may want to hold your hand when he meets you. He responds best to calm, warm, patient people who give him time, use simple communication, and help him feel safe.
About JM's needs
JM has complex health, mobility, communication and personal care needs. He requires close supervision and hands-on support throughout the day.
His care includes:
- PEG/gastrostomy feeding and medication support
- Seizure monitoring and emergency response
- Support with mobility, transfers and safe positioning
- Personal care, continence care and hygiene support
- Aspiration risk awareness and safe feeding support
- Support with communication, choices and emotional regulation
- Sensory play, music, outdoor activities and community access
- Working closely with parents, therapists and clinical professionals
This role involves frequent intimate personal care. JM's can experience frequent diarrhoea and bowel movements, and he requires showering after every bowel movement. Applicants must be comfortable providing respectful, calm and dignified continence care, washing, changing and showering support.
The person we are looking for
We are looking for carers who are:
- Warm, emotionally mature and genuinely caring
- Reliable, consistent and able to commit long-term
- Active and outdoorsy, with the energy to support sensory play, walks, music, movement and family activities
- Comfortable working closely with parents and becoming part of family life
- Calm under pressure and able to follow care plans carefully
- Confident with personal care, including continence care, showering and hygiene
- Respectful, patient and able to preserve JM's dignity at all times
- Happy to work as part of a small team of 2–3 consistent carers
- A driver with access to reliable transport
- Open to training and ongoing supervision
Experience in complex care, SEN, paediatrics, neurological conditions, PEG feeding, epilepsy, dysphagia, moving and handling, or children with disabilities would be highly desirable. However, the right attitude, reliability and emotional fit are just as important. Full training will be provided where required.
Essential requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one
- Comfortable with personal care, continence care and showering
- Willingness to complete training in PEG feeding, epilepsy, aspiration risk, moving and handling, medication support and JM's condition
- Ability to work respectfully in a family home
- Commitment to consistency and relationship-based care

Why this role is special
This is a deeply meaningful role supporting a young boy and his family at home. JM needs carers who will see the child first: someone who loves music, singing, dancing, holding hands, being outdoors and sharing joyful moments with people he trusts.
The family are looking for both male and female carers and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. What matters most is kindness, reliability, emotional investment, and the ability to work closely with the whole family.
