We’re looking for two confident and organised individuals to take on a varied and multi-skilled role within our street team.
About the role
Our "BID Buddies" are the friendly and reliable public face of the Sheffield Business Improvement District (BID) in Sheffield city centre.
This position involves face-to-face interaction with the public and local businesses, covering a broad area across the city centre. It also involves a lot of walking and fresh air.
Our team provides a vital link between visitors, businesses and public services, assisting in the smooth running of visitor events as well as providing administrative support for several core projects in a consumer facing / retail environment.
Who we're looking for
You must be confident, friendly, approachable and able to promote positive aspects of the city centre.
We need people who can be available for at least 37.5 hours each week; such hours to typically fall between 8am and 6pm Monday to Sunday, to be agreed on a flexible working rota 4-weeks in advance. Some out of hours working will be necessary from time to time.
You will be physically fit and able to work outside in all weather conditions and be mobile over considerable distances.
Main tasks
- Welcoming visitors and shoppers, providing clear wayfinding support, and proactively approaching those who may need assistance or appear lost.
- Identifying and reporting issues such as graffiti, fly posting, flooded roads, blocked gullies, abandoned vehicles and vandalism.
- Interacting with local businesses (mainly retail and hospitality) through regular drop-ins, facilitating feedback from our BID levy payers (and recording interactions).
- Staffing our visitor information hub to support daily visitor enquiries, regular visitor events and seasonal campaigns. (The BID will shortly introduce a mobile visitor welcome vehicle as well, so a driving licence is desirable but not essential.)
- Helping to administer the Sheffield City Centre Gift Card including face-to-face transactions (via the visitor hub).
- Providing a concierge service for our mobility hire scheme Mobile Sheffield (via our visitor hub); managing bookings for equipment, registering new members and demonstrating equipment to first time users.
- Delivering a proactive meet‑and‑greet service and a walking bus option for BID levy payers and their clients.
- Undertaking other duties as may be required from time to time by the BID.
