JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for delivering civils works to support telecoms infrastructure build and maintenance activities on the Openreach PIA network. This includes excavation, duct installation, blockage clearance, and chamber construction, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with required standards.
The role requires adherence to all Health & Safety regulations, industry accreditations, and company procedures, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and professionalism across all site activities
Role Responsibility
The role involves carrying out a range of civils activities including excavation, reinstatement, duct installation, blockage clearance, and chamber construction/repair. Work is delivered on live telecoms infrastructure on public footways, footpaths and carriageway, requiring strict adherence to PIA and street works standards.
Responsibilities include interpreting job packs, permits, and utility drawings to ensure safe and accurate delivery of works. The role requires the safe use of tools and equipment associated with civils operations, alongside maintaining site safety, compliance, and productivity.
There is an expectation to work collaboratively with supervisors and wider teams to ensure works are completed on time, to specification, and with minimal disruption. Maintaining high standards of workmanship, site discipline, and documentation is essential.
Key Accountability
- Carry out excavation and installation in line with specifications
- Undertake blockage clearance and duct repair activities
- Construct modular chambers
- Read and interpret job packs, permits, and utility drawings before commencing work
- Identify underground services and follow safe digging practices
- Ensure all works comply with Health & Safety regulations and company procedures
- Use civils tools and equipment safely and correctly
- Maintain accurate site records and complete required documentation
- Keep work areas safe, tidy, and compliant with site standards
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
- Report hazards, defects, or issues promptly
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements:
- UK resident
- UK driving licence with no more than 6 points
- Full NRSWA (street works) accreditation
- SA006 – Safe Working in Civils
- Q13 – Box Building Modular
- Q19 – Core Drilling
- Q20 – Duct Blockage
- CPCS / NPORS excavator ticket up to 10 tonne
- Proven experience as a Civils Operative within telecoms
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions
- Strong understanding of civils and construction processes
- Good level of physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in all condition
- Working in confined spaces
