SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) – Maternity Cover
Full-Time | Fixed-Term Contract | September 2026 Start | Islington, North London
We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded independent primary school in Islington, North London, seeking an experienced and passionate SENCO to join their dedicated team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract commencing September 2026.

The Role
As SENCO, you will:
- Lead and manage the school's SEND provision across the primary phase.
- Identify and assess pupils with additional needs, ensuring appropriate support and interventions are in place.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents and external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for pupils.
- Maintain accurate SEND records and oversee Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes where required.
- Provide guidance and training to staff to promote high-quality inclusive teaching.
- Champion an inclusive culture where every child can thrive.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- The National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or a commitment to hold/complete the statutory SENCO qualification
- Proven experience working as a SENCO or within a SEND leadership role in a UK school
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current UK SEND legislation
- Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills
- A collaborative and child-centred approach to inclusion
