The Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with a range of additional learning needs. Working closely with support staff, parents, and external agencies, you will create a positive and nurturing environment where every child can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Support pupils with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted interventions.
- Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies where necessary.
- Foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, and colleagues.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to review meetings and reports.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs.
- Strong understanding of SEND legislation and inclusive teaching practices.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- The ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
- A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working within a specialist SEN setting or resource base.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- Additional SEN-related training or qualifications.
- Knowledge of alternative communication strategies and intervention programmes.
