Role Purpose
The Stock Analyst / Stock Planner is responsible for ensuring optimal stock availability while minimising excess inventory across the business. This role uses data analysis, forecasting, and demand planning techniques to support sales performance, improve cash flow, and maintain service levels.
Key Responsibilities
1. Demand Planning & Forecasting
- Analyse historical sales data and trends to forecast future demand
- Collaborate with sales, manufacturing, and buying teams to refine forecasts
- Adjust forecasts based on seasonality, promotions, and market conditions
2. Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels to ensure product availability while avoiding overstocks
- Set and manage minimum/maximum stock levels and reorder points
- Identify slow-moving, obsolete, or excess inventory and take corrective action
3. Stock Replenishment
- Plan and manage replenishment orders to maintain optimal stock levels
- Work with suppliers and procurement teams to ensure timely deliveries
- Balance lead times, order quantities, and demand requirements
4. Performance Analysis & Reporting
- Track and report on key stock KPIs, including:
- Availability / service level
- Sell-through rates
- Stock cover days
- Produce regular reports and insights for senior management
5. Cost & Working Capital Control
- Monitor stock value and support initiatives to reduce working capital
- Identify opportunities to improve stock efficiency and reduce waste
- Support markdowns, promotions, or clearance strategies
6. Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate stock data in ERP / inventory systems
- Improve stock planning processes and tools
- Support implementation of forecasting or planning systems
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Buying / Merchandising
- Sales teams
- Warehouse & logistics
- Ensure alignment between demand forecasts and supply capabilities

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in stock planning, supply chain, or inventory management
- Strong analytical skills (Experience with BI tools desirable)
- Highly proficient with all Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
- Ability to interpret data and make commercial decisions
- Understanding of demand forecasting principles
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Desirable
- Experience in retail, FMCG, wholesale, or distribution
- Knowledge of Sage 200
