Smoke Ventilation Systems Engineer - Company Overview:
Our client is a specialist provider of smoke ventilation and smoke control systems, delivering installation, maintenance, and commissioning services across residential and commercial projects. Operating primarily in London and the South East, the business also supports projects nationwide, including Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. Due to continued growth, they are seeking Engineers to join their expanding team.
This is an excellent opportunity for approved, newly qualified, or improver electricians to develop specialist expertise in smoke ventilation systems while working within a safety-focused and professionally driven organisation.
Smoke Ventilation Systems Engineer - Role and Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and service smoke ventilation systems from a range of manufacturers, ensuring all works meet contractual, manufacturer, and regulatory requirements.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with agreed scopes, standards, and guidance.
- Work alongside Lead Engineers to ensure projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.
- Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and management to maintain the company’s professional reputation.
- Use company software to raise and communicate quotation requirements, including scope, asset details, fault diagnosis, recommended remedial actions, materials, and supporting photographs or notes.
- Travel across the UK as required, including overnight stays and overtime, shared fairly across the team.
- Maintain a strong health and safety mindset, identifying hazards and reporting opportunities for improvement.
- Exercise authority to stop works or refuse unsafe tasks where safety, compliance, or system performance may be compromised, escalating and recording actions in line with company procedures.
- Assist commissioning engineers with system commissioning activities as required.
Smoke Ventilation Systems Engineer - Skills and Experience Required:
- Experience as a partially qualified, newly qualified, or improver electrician within a building services, electrical, or smoke ventilation environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical installation practices and health and safety requirements.
- Ability to read and work from drawings, specifications, and system designs.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers and internal teams.
- A proactive work ethic and willingness to go the extra mile to achieve high-quality outcomes.
- Ability to adapt to changing site conditions, coordinate with other trades, and meet project deadlines.
Minimum Formal Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations (or equivalent).
- JIB/ECS Card holder.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
Desirable but not essential:
- Rooftop Safety / Work Restraint training (e.g. SpanSet).
- PASMA (Towers).
- IPAF (3a / 3b).
- Working knowledge of Approved Document B, BS EN 12101, BS 9999, BS 9991, and BS 7346 Part 8.
- Experience with manufacturers such as Colt, SCS, FDS, and SE Controls.
