Job Purpose
To join The Wendy House Family, supporting the care, learning, and development of children while working towards a recognised qualification in Early Learning and Childcare.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare & Learning
- Support the delivery of high-quality early learning and childcare in line with Curriculum for Excellence and Realising the Ambition
- Assist in planning and providing engaging play and learning experiences
- Promote children’s wellbeing, development, and independence
- Help create a safe, nurturing, and "home away from home" environment
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
- Follow all child protection and safeguarding procedures
- Maintain a safe environment and support children’s wellbeing in line with GIRFEC principles
- Report any concerns regarding a child’s welfare in line with nursery policy
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times
Teamwork & Professional Practice
- Work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive nursery environment
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues
- Follow nursery policies, procedures, and values
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professionalism
Learning & Development
SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7
- Participate in training, supervision, and ongoing professional development
- Reflect on practice and actively develop skills and knowledge
Community Engagement
- Support the nursery’s role as a community cornerstone
- Contribute to activities that engage families and the wider community
Person Specification
Essential
- Willingness to work towards SCQF Level 7 qualification
- Genuine interest in working with children
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Reliable, responsible, and committed
Desirable
- Awareness of early learning and childcare practices
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection (or willingness to learn)
SSSC Requirements
- The successful candidate must register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within the required timeframe
- Must work in accordance with the SSSC Codes of Practice
- Must achieve a recognised qualification to meet registration requirements
