Job Title: Care Professional (also known as Care Assistant, Home Care Assistant, Care Visitor)
Company: Home Instead Scarborough & Ryedale
Location: All areas of Scarborough (most clients are in the Scarborough area, we hire locally to Malton and Pickering for clients in the Ryedale area)
Pay: £13.15 per hour, rising to £13.50 on completion of probation (usually 12 weeks).
Make a difference — one hour at a time
At Home Instead Scarborough & Ryedale, we believe that great care isn't something you can rush. That's why every visit we make is a minimum of one hour — long enough to genuinely connect with the people you're supporting, not just tick tasks off a list.
As a Care Professional with us, you'll build real relationships with your clients. You'll be their support, their companion, and someone they can genuinely rely on. Before you visit anyone new, we'll introduce you first — so you're never walking into a stranger's home, and neither are they opening the door to one.
If you're a kind, caring person who wants to do work that truly matters, we'd love to hear from you. No previous care experience is needed — what matters most is your character, but we do value the experience you bring and there are opportunities to develop your career.
What we offer
- £13.15 per hour to start, rising to £13.50 after probation (usually 12 weeks)
- Travel time paid at your full hourly rate between visits, plus 45p per mile mileage expenses — unlike providers who pay only for time spent in the home, your pay reflects contact time with clients and the time you spend travelling in between
- Minimum one-hour visits — meaning our hourly rate goes much further than the headline rates you'll see elsewhere, where unpaid travel time quickly erodes your actual earnings
- Your annual MOT paid for by us
- £250 employee referral bonus for every person you recommend who joins the team
- Funded career development — Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications supported
- Ongoing professional training throughout your career with us
- Access to our wellbeing programme, employee assistance, and staff discounts
Working patterns
We have vacancies across two patterns — please indicate your preference when you apply:
Morning/daytime Care Professionals Work 8am–2pm or 8am–5:30pm. You'll commit to a minimum of 2 weekdays per week on your chosen pattern, plus alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
Evening Care Professionals Work 4pm–9pm or 5:30pm–9pm. You'll work 2, 3 or 4 weekday evenings per week, plus alternate Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Both patterns include alternate weekends completely free.
What you'll do
You'll support clients in their own homes with a mix of companionship and practical care — the balance will vary depending on each person's needs. Day to day, this can include:
- Spending quality time with clients, providing companionship and meaningful conversation
- Help with everyday tasks such as meal preparation and light housework
- Accompanying clients to appointments or on shopping trips
- Personal care — supporting clients with bathing, dressing, grooming and other essentials that help them stay healthy and independent
What we're looking for
You don't need a background in care. What we look for is:
- A genuinely kind, caring and empathetic nature
- Good communication skills and a warm, patient approach
- Reliability, honesty and a real desire to make a difference
- The ability to work alternate weekends — which also means alternate weekends completely free
- Your own car to travel around our franchise territory
