Senior Sous Chef – Full-Time Position, Live Out
We are seeking an experienced, driven, and creative Senior Sous Chef to join our team at the Mason’s Arms, a highly regarded countryside pub known for its seasonal menus, quality ingredients, and relaxed yet refined dining experience.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strong Sous Chef ready to step up, or an established Senior Sous Chef looking to take ownership within a supportive and ambitious kitchen.

The Mason’s Arms is a destination pub in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside, offering a menu that blends traditional British pub classics with modern influences. We focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, changing menus regularly to reflect the seasons, and maintaining high standards of presentation and flavour.
The Role
As Senior Sous Chef, you will be the right hand to the Head Chef and a key leader within the kitchen brigade. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring smooth service, consistency, and high standards at all times.
You will also be expected to take full control in the Head Chef’s absence, making this a pivotal leadership role within the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen management
- Lead and organise kitchen service to ensure efficient and smooth operations
- Maintain exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation
- Take ownership of sections and oversee all areas during service
- Assist in menu development, including specials and seasonal changes
- Train, mentor, and develop junior chefs and kitchen staff
- Ensure strict adherence to food hygiene, health & safety, and HACCP standards
- Manage stock levels, ordering, deliveries, and supplier relationships
- Monitor GP, portion control, and minimise waste
- Contribute ideas to improve kitchen efficiency and overall offering
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience at Sous Chef level (or similar senior role)
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team
- Passion for fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced food
- Solid understanding of kitchen operations, cost control, and stock management
- Ability to work calmly under pressure in a busy service environment
- High attention to detail and pride in presentation
- Level 2 (or higher) Food Safety certification preferred
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic
