Hull & East Yorkshire Centre for the Deaf is a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting the local Deaf community. Cover Administration Assistant – flexible hours – up to £12.72 per hour – weekends – evenings and week days
We are seeking a reliable and adaptable individual to provide ad hoc administrative and operational cover on a zero-hours basis. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the Centre, particularly when covering staff absence, annual leave, or busy periods. You will be a visible and approachable presence at the Centre, supporting both the operational side of the building and interacting with members of the Deaf community.
Key Responsibilities
· Opening and closing the building as a key holder
· Providing general office administration including answering calls, making video calls, responding to emails, updating spreadsheets and filing
· Welcoming and engaging with Centre users and visitors
· Supporting the day-to-day running of the building
· Carrying out basic caretaker duties, including cleaning as required
· Handling money and access to the safe in line with procedures
· Ensuring compliance with safeguarding and confidentiality policies
· Supporting a safe, inclusive and accessible environment
Skills and Experience
· Competent British Sign Language (BSL) user, qualified to Level 3 (Signature accredited) or equivalent
· Previous experience in a general office or administrative role
· Confident using IT systems including email, spreadsheets and general office software
· Experience interacting with people from a wide range of backgrounds
· Strong communication skills (signed and written)
· A full UK driving licence is beneficial but not essential

· Zero-hours contract paid at National Minimum Wage
· Working hours include evenings and weekends
· Must be able to cover sickness and holidays at short notice
· Subject to a full DBS check
· Training provided including First Aid, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding and Fire Safety
