St Mark's Church of England School is seeking an experienced and proactive HR Officer to provide a professional and efficient HR service across our thriving all-through growing school.
This is a key role within the school, supporting staff and leaders across the full employee lifecycle. We are looking for an organised and personable HR professional who has experience working within a busy HR environment and ideally within a school, academy, college or other educational setting.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting recruitment, employee relations, absence management, wellbeing initiatives and HR administration, helping to ensure that St Mark's remains a great place to work and learn.
About the Role
Working closely with the School Business Manager and Senior Leadership Team, you will:
- Manage all recruitment activities, including advertising vacancies, arranging interviews and administering safer recruitment processes.
- Coordinate onboarding and induction programmes for new employees, ensuring all pre-employment checks and documentation are completed.
- Monitor probationary periods and coordinate review meetings and confirmation letters.
- Prepare contracts, contractual variations and payroll documentation.
- Administer absence management processes, including return-to-work interviews, occupational health referrals and family-friendly leave arrangements.
- Support employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence procedures by preparing correspondence, reports and meeting documentation.
- Maintain accurate personnel records and HR systems.
- Undertake personal risk assessments and PEEPs for staff, working alongside the School Business Manager and Site Team.
- Act as the school's Mental Health First Aider and lead staff wellbeing initiatives, including surveys and wellbeing activities.
- Support the organisation of staff training, CPD events and professional development programmes.
- Provide administrative support to the wider school office when required, including reception and telephone cover during periods of absence.
What We're Looking For - Essential:
- CIPD Level 3 qualification or above.
- Experience working within an HR environment.
- Excellent understanding of HR policies, procedures and current employment legislation.
- Experience of recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle administration.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with tact and professionalism.
- Strong IT skills, including Google, Word, Excel, Outlook and ideally HR payroll systems.
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Desirable
- Experience working within a school, academy, college or local authority environment.
- Knowledge of safer recruitment practices and Keeping Children Safe in Education requirements.
- Experience of payroll systems and administration.
- Experience using education-based HR or payroll systems.
