About Us
We are a growing swimming education company dedicated to delivering high-quality swimming lessons to children and adults. Our team consists of approximately 175 swimming teachers and 25 office-based staff, all committed to helping people develop confidence and skills in the water.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced HR & Payroll Manager to oversee our people operations and payroll function, ensuring our employees receive excellent support throughout their employment journey.
The Role
This is a key position within the business, responsible for managing all aspects of Human Resources and Payroll. Working remotely, you will support managers and employees across the organisation, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and a positive employee experience.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing a workforce that includes both teaching and administrative staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including contracts and offboarding.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems.
- Provide advice and guidance to managers on HR policies, procedures, and employment matters.
- Manage absence, disciplinary, grievance, and performance processes.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation and company policies.
- Coordinate employee training, development, and mandatory certifications.
- Support employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives.
- Produce HR reports and workforce data for senior management.
- Assist with workforce planning and recruitment campaigns.
Payroll
- Manage and process payroll for approximately 200 employees.
- Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, hourly pay, holiday pay, pensions, statutory payments, and deductions.
- Liaise with payroll providers, pension providers, and relevant external agencies.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Resolve payroll queries promptly and professionally.
- Manage pension enrolment and administration.
- Prepare payroll reports and support budgeting processes.
About YouEssential
- Previous experience in an HR and Payroll management role.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
- Experience processing payroll for a medium-sized workforce.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficient in HR and payroll systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a remote environment.
Desirable
- CIPD qualification (Level 5 or above).
- Payroll qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience working within education, leisure, sport, or service-based organisations.
- Experience managing a geographically dispersed workforce.
