Role Summary
GoodBeams is a Scottish telemedicine clinic. Our HIS registration is pending and required prior to Day 1 of clinical operations on 1 September 2026. We are passionate about evidence-based, specialist-led and holistic care.
We are recruiting Consultant Prescribers on the GMC Specialist Register in Pain Medicine, Anaesthesia (with sub-specialty interest in chronic pain) or Psychiatry, to initiate and review prescriptions for Cannabis-Based Products for Medicinal Use (CBPMs).
This is a remote, sessional role, with an opportunity to expand into a full-time or part-time substantive role. We hope to expand our services into longevity and lifestyle medicine. Successful applicants will work alongside our Clinical Director and Registered Manager within a team that takes patient safety, audit, and outcomes data seriously.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Practice and Prescribing
- Conduct remote video consultations with adult patients referred into the cannabis pathway, in line with current clinical protocols and SOPs.
- Initiate, titrate, and review prescriptions for Cannabis-Based Products for Medicinal Use (CBPMs) where clinically appropriate.
- Hold appropriate prescribing authority and be registered on the specialist register as per UK guidance.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and auditable records.
- Liaise with the patient's NHS GP and other treating clinicians as appropriate, in accordance with GMC expectations on continuity of care.
Patient Safety, Governance and Compliance
- Practise within the GoodBeams clinical governance framework, including consent, safeguarding, controlled drug, and serious incident policies.
- Contribute to incident reviews, audit cycles, outcomes monitoring, and continuous quality improvement, supporting HIS compliance.
- Adhere to GMC Good Medical Practice, Good Practice in Prescribing and Managing Medicines, and any applicable specialty-specific guidance for cannabis-based prescribing.
- Escalate clinical risk, safeguarding concerns, or non-routine cases to the Clinical Director without delay.
Multidisciplinary Working
- Work collaboratively with the wider team on treatment clarifications and care.
- Participate in MDT case discussions, complex case reviews, and clinical governance meetings (typically monthly, remote).
- Support the wider clinical team, including GPs and Independent Prescribers, by providing specialist initiation and oversight where required by protocol.
Continuing Development and Standards
- Maintain registration with the GMC and a licence to practise, with annual appraisal and revalidation arrangements in place.
- Engage with internal training, induction, and CPD relating to the evolving evidence base in medical cannabis and lifestyle medicine.
Essential Criteria
- Full registration with the GMC and a current licence to practise in the UK.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Pain Medicine, Anaesthesia or Psychiatry.
- Demonstrable, active track record of prescribing Cannabis-Based Products for Medicinal Use (CBPMs).
- Working knowledge of the UK CBPM regulatory framework, Home Office controlled drug requirements, and private specialist practice obligations.
- Experience of remote consultation and confidence with telemedicine workflows, including secure video, electronic prescribing, and documentation.
- High standards of professional integrity, with a clear commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and evidence-based care.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage patients, primary care colleagues, and the wider team effectively.
- Current and valid professional medical indemnity insurance suitable for private specialist practice and Schedule 2 controlled drug prescribing, in place from the start of engagement and maintained throughout.
Desirable Criteria
- Membership of, or active engagement with, a recognised medical cannabis professional body or special interest group (for example, the Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society).
- Experience in private clinic governance, audit, or registration processes (HIS, CQC, or equivalent).
- Involvement in clinical audit, real-world evidence collection, or outcomes research in chronic pain or psychiatric indications.
- Interest in contributing to service design, protocol development, or clinician education as the service matures.
Working Pattern and Remuneration
Self-employed contractor. The successful applicant provides independent clinical services on a contracted basis and is responsible for their own GMC registration and revalidation, taxation, IR35 status as applicable, and professional medical indemnity insurance arrangements.
Working pattern: Bank/sessional, fully remote.
Location: Remote video consultations from a suitable, private clinical environment.
Commitment: Minimum of one session per week preferred, with capacity to increase. The role is structured with an explicit pathway to expanded sessions and to part-substantive or full-time appointments as patient volumes grow.
Remuneration: Competitive sessional and per-consultation rates, market-aligned with private specialist practice. Substantive package available for the right candidate as volumes grow.
Start date: From 1 September 2026.
Governance and Accountability
Reports to: Clinical Director for all clinical matters, with regulatory oversight from the Registered Manager (Nominated Individual for HIS purposes).
Accountable for: Individual clinical decisions, prescribing standards, record-keeping, and adherence to GoodBeams clinical governance and SOPs.
Key relationships: Clinical Director, Registered Manager, pharmacy team, fellow Consultant Prescribers, Independent Prescribers, and wider MDT colleagues.
