A specialist OFSTED Outstanding educational setting in the Speke area of Liverpool is seeking full-time caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to join their specialist team with an opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate. The school caters for children (ages 11-16) with a range of complex learning difficulties - from social, mental and emotional health to severe complex needs. This is a full-time position trialling now for September offering an excellent opportunity for individuals who are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of young learners by working with students to progress them academically and with practical skills.
The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral support team to provide high-quality classroom and emotional support, helping pupils to access learning, regulate emotions, build confidence, and achieve their individual goals. The school particularly supports those with SEN, SEMH (Social and Emotional Mental Health) all with an EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan), and values staff that can take on a mentoring approach and come from all walks of life and experiences.
This school will provide you with opportunities for professional development, and the objective is that you have quick career progression. Pay can be up to £108.50 a day depending on your experience and if you can impress during a paid trial, which the school is more than happy to give you a real taste. Personal care is essential within the school, although you may not be expected to change nappies daily, you will be required to support if any issues arise.
The ideal SEN Learning Support Assistant should:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND and SEMH needs
- Have a specialist in SEN or SEMH
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and mental health development through positive engagement, structure, and consistent routines
- Help implement EHCP targets, SEMH support plans, behaviour management strategies, and communication approaches
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, de-escalation techniques, and positive behaviour reinforcement
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment for the children
- Encourage independence, resilience, confidence, and positive relationships
- Be open to providing personal care
