Dr Ben Miles is a science YouTube channel with 3M+ followers across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. We're a small, fast-moving team producing cutting-edge science content at a high volume, and we need someone to help us run production without sacrificing quality.
This role blends writing and production. You'll turn research into scripts that hold attention, and help keep editors and animators moving with clear, expert feedback - catching scientific errors before they ship. It's a hands-on role with real room to grow as you upskill.
What you'll do
- Work closely with our producer, taking work off their plate and gradually being upskilled to take on more of the workload yourself
- Review edits and animation drafts, giving editors and animators clear, actionable feedback
- Support and help write scripts and content, to help keep editors and animators supplied with work - script writing is a skill we'll develop with you
- Take ownership of day-to-day production flow so nothing stalls waiting on review
- Bring fresh ideas to the table - you're naturally curious about science content and genuinely excited by what's working across YouTube and social
Who we're looking for
- PhD in a scientific field required
- Comfortable being the final check on scientific accuracy - you're happy to speak up when the science is wrong, and can explain clearly what needs to change
- You write about science, and you write creatively - not just academic or technical writing. Ideally you've already written something in this space: a newsletter, blog, essays, scripts, threads
- Some exposure to video/content production (running a channel, podcast, or working alongside editors)
- Organized under pressure, happy to pick up extra tasks, and comfortable moving fast and wearing multiple hats
- You're genuinely invested in science and storytelling, and care about the mission behind the channel, not just the role
Why this role
- Real influence over what millions of people see - both the words and the final product
- Small team means direct access to the creative and production process, not just tasks handed down
- Structured path to take on more responsibility as you upskill
- Close feedback loops - you'll improve fast
- Annual in-person team meetups for collaboration and creative development
- Fully remote, globally distributed team - UK-based candidates preferred
The process
If you're shortlisted, we'll send you a short task to complete as part of the application. We're a small team, so it may take us a little while to get back to you, and we may not be able to send a personal response to everyone who applies.
