Job description
As Nursery Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the nursery, ensuring that children receive excellent care and learning opportunities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
You will lead and support the staff team, maintain high standards across all room areas, build positive relationships with families, and ensure that the nursery meets all relevant safeguarding, health and safety, Ofsted and statutory requirements.
You will also play an important role in the wider life of the community centre, helping to promote strong partnerships with parents, carers, professionals and the local community.
Key responsibilities:
As Nursery Manager, you will:
· Lead the day-to-day running of the nursery, creating a safe, caring and stimulating environment where children can thrive.
· Support high-quality EYFS practice, ensuring children’s individual learning, development and wellbeing needs are met.
· Lead, support and develop the nursery team through supervision, meetings, appraisals, induction and training.
· Ensure safeguarding, Ofsted, health and safety, hygiene and nursery policy requirements are met.
· Build positive relationships with parents, carers and families, offering appropriate support and guidance.
· Work with external professionals where needed, including health visitors, speech and language therapists and other childcare specialists.
· Help ensure the nursery is well organised, inclusive, welcoming and resourced to support children’s learning.
· Manage staffing arrangements, including cover for holidays, sickness and areas of need.
· Support the handling of concerns, complaints or safeguarding matters in line with nursery procedures.
· Contribute to nursery events, open evenings, parents’ evenings, trips, outings and community activities.
· Work closely with the Centre Manager to maintain high standards and support continuous improvement.
About you
We are looking for a warm, capable and committed early years professional who enjoys leading a team and making a positive difference to children and families.
You will bring:
· A relevant Level 3 qualification or above in Childcare, Early Years, Learning and Development, or equivalent.
· Experience of leading or managing within an early years, childcare or nursery setting.
· A good understanding of the EYFS and how to support children’s individual learning and development.
· Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and a commitment to keeping children safe.
· A positive, inclusive and child-centred approach.
· The ability to communicate sensitively and professionally with children, families, colleagues and external professionals.
· Confidence in supporting staff, encouraging good practice and helping others develop.
· Good organisational skills and the ability to respond calmly and flexibly in a busy nursery environment.
· A commitment to equality, inclusion, confidentiality and high standards of care.
Experience of supporting children with additional needs, working with external professionals, or leading staff development would be helpful, but most important is your
passion for early years, your commitment to safeguarding and your ability to lead with warmth, professionalism and care.
