Teaching Assistant (TA) – SEN/SEMH & EAL Support
Location: Moston, Manchester
Hours: Full-Time / Term-Time Only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school in Moston. This role involves supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and pupils who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL).
The successful candidate will be confident working with children who may display behaviours that challenge and will be passionate about helping every child reach their full potential in a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide classroom and 1:1 support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with children who require additional emotional and behavioural support.
- Support pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) to access learning and develop their communication skills.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement tailored support strategies.
- Promote positive behaviour and engagement within the classroom.
- Assist with monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with children in a school, care, youth work, or similar setting.
- Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH, and challenging behaviours.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or SEMH needs.
- Experience working with EAL learners.
- Ability to speak an additional language such as Arabic, Urdu, Yoruba, Mandarin, Cantonese, or another community language.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or Teaching Assistant support, TEFL Qualification
