Children's Residential Support Worker
Location: Croydon
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £13.50 – £14.50 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Working Hours: Full-time, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, sleep-ins and shift work.
The Role
As a Children's Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people within a residential care setting. You will provide high-quality care, emotional support and practical guidance while promoting positive outcomes and safeguarding their welfare.
Working as part of a dedicated team, you will help create a stable, supportive and therapeutic environment where children feel valued, respected and empowered to achieve their goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day care, support and supervision to children and young people.
- Create and maintain a safe, warm and nurturing home environment.
- Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.
- Support children in achieving their educational, social, emotional and developmental goals.
- Implement and contribute to individual care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies.
- Encourage participation in recreational, educational, and community-based activities.
- Promote independence, self-confidence, and essential life skills.
- Manage challenging behaviours calmly and effectively using therapeutic and restorative approaches.
- Work collaboratively with families, social workers, schools, healthcare professionals, and other agencies.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures, health and safety regulations and Children's Home Standards.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions and ongoing training.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of one year's experience working with childcare or a similar support in a residential setting.
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Social Care, or an equivalent qualification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A caring, patient, and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable children and young people.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience supporting children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
- Experience in behaviour management and safeguarding practices.
- Full UK driving licence.
