Polventon House is a small 19 bed Residential Home in St Keverne, priding its self on the Home from Home experience. We are a care home for individuals over the age of 65 supporting people with a range of needs and we are looking for a new Senior Carer to join our team for roughly 16-20hrs per week. The amount of hours could potentially be flexible depending on the right applicant, either increasing or decreasing contracted hours accordingly. Our rotas are created 6 weeks in advance on a 2 week rolling basis so that employees have the consistency of regular days and hours to ensure an effective work / life balance, yet able to be flexible if desired in picking up any additional hours to cover other colleagues holidays, should additional hours be something of interest to the successful applicant.
Candidates would ideally have a minimum of one year experience in care and have a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care.
We provide a full induction with training and shadow shifts, with ongoing support as needed. We also provide fully paid breaks, free lunches (with produce being sourced locally from the local butchers and fresh fruit and vegetable delivery daily, with a choice of different meals each day), paid face to face and online training as well as paid induction time. Training is also adapted to meet the individual learners preferred style of learning.
Duties include:
To conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times within the home and encourage all staff to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner
To work flexibly with the management of the home to provide a caring, supportive, safe and homely environment for the residents
To work with and support flexibly the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager to assist in the delivery and implementation of all the homes policies, procedures, plans to deliver a caring, supportive, safe and homely environment for the residents
In the absence of a member of management, assume responsibility for all activities within the home
Supervise and monitor the delivery of the highest standards of care and support, to enable residents to live as normally as possible within their capability and at all times, respecting their independence, dignity and privacy
To assist in providing a due proportion of cover for any absences within the home
To assist in maintaining the confidentiality of the residents, staff and the affairs of the home
To work with all staff to promote and maintain the cleanliness, hygiene and safe working practices in line with policies and procedures within the home
To act as a role model to all staff, assist in maintaining standards, conduct and discipline
To work with and assist all medical professionals to maximise the health, welfare care and support available to all residents
Maintain all resident’s computerised and physical records as required
To work collaboratively with all outside agencies, including the Care Quality Commission, Cornwall Council Adult Social Care, agencies delivering acute and preventive medical care and support and any organisation that may benefit the health and welfare of a resident or potential resident
To liaise with family, friends and professionals associated with any resident, as necessary
To attend training as deemed necessary by the management and to work towards care orientated supervisory qualifications, and promote training and career progression with all staff
To be alert to any action of abuse towards residents or staff and to be fully aware of the safeguarding policy and procedures
Carry out all duties with a positive attitude and sensitivity that promotes professionalism, proficiency and competence for the residents, visitors and other staff
To be available to supervise the home as required
To provide support and guidance to all care staff and monitor their work and performance
To assist in the creation and maintaining of an individualised Care Plan for each resident and in the continuous development and implementation of those care plans
To assist with the assessment of residents before planned admissions
To assist with the Home Induction programme, train, monitor and record the performance of individual Care Assistants as an ongoing process
To complete the ‘Record of Supervision’ documentation and provide appropriate support and direction to individual members of staff
To assist the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Care Manager in monitoring all care staff adhere to the Administration of Medication procedures and policies; support and advise accordingly
To maintain all administration records as required; accurately, timely and in line with home policies
Liaise with all medical support staff that attend residents, action requirements, record the visits and communicate all relevant information as required
Arrange for external medical appointments and make travel arrangements as required
Support the management in the delivery and the monitoring of all care activities, operating standards, application of policies and procedures, heath, safety and welfare of the residents, staff and the home
Encourage and promote social activities with the residents
Assist with the preparation for Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspections and work to promote the Home with the CQC in the execution of an inspection
Engage in training and personal development activities as required by the Home, which must be carried out with the due regard to improving the care, support, health, safety and welfare of all residents, staff and the home
Any other duties that are deemed necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the home
