JOB DESCRIPTION: Registered Nurse 2 shifts a week contract
Responsible to Registered Manager/Clinical Lead
Principle responsibilities :
1. To adhere to NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Company Polices & Procedures and current Legislation.
2. To supervise the day to day running of the home observing and monitoring the work of all staff in conjunction with or in the absence of the nurse manager
3. To safely receive, store, handle, administer, dispose of and order all medicines according to current legislation, guidelines and practice and document such
4. To have relevant clinical skills including venepuncture, catheterisation –male and female- and wound care.
5. To ensure relatives are treated with respect and have access to senior management when requested
6. To ensure the residents receive the correct level of care and at specific times throughout the day and that relevant charts are maintained
7. To ensure that all medication is administered and documentation carried out to NMC standards
8. To ensure that the dressings are carried out as prescribed and any changes are reported to the nurse manager as soon as possible
9. To ensure that clients are correctly prepared for the GP and other professional visits and that the qualified nurse accompanies the professionals on the visit .To ensure that all information from the professional is passed on to the nurse manager and other staff as soon as possible . To ensure that all necessary documentation is documented in the client notes
10. To ensure that clients who go out on appointments are adequately prepared and a suitable escort arranged . Appropriate documentation should be prepared to accompany the client
11. To promote effective communication with all other outside agencies e.g. optician dentist etc.
12. To ensure that daily evaluation reports are correctly written with regards to the care of the client
13. To ensure care plans and risk assessments are updated and evaluated for all clients to maintain high standards of person centred care
14. To ensure that any changes in the clients condition are reported to the nurse manager as soon as possible
15. To assist the nurse manager in the continual teaching of the care assistants and act as a role model.
16. To ensure that all staff are aware of and adhere to health and safety procedures
17. To ensure all clients and relatives are met and always referred to the qualified nurse if appropriate
18. To ensure all weekend work duties are carried out and appropriate documentation signed
19. To ensure all staff are aware of and adhere to health and safety procedures
20. To follow Safeguarding procedures as stipulated in the Village Nursing/Care Home policy file.
All qualified nurses:
· It is very important that you communicate with other staff on duty, and they are aware of when you take your breaks, in case of emergency. Please ensure that the manager/deputy is aware of your whereabouts at all times. It is the nurses/senior/deputy responsibility to ensure the diary is complete and all of the above adhered to.
· It is the responsibility of the nurse/deputy/senior care to ensure medication is ordered before it runs out, and never left until the next shift.
· Write in the diary, who the medication is for, and what it is for so that this can be chased up if required. Please fill medicines trolley up at the end of each round to ensure supplies present for the next time if the last bottle or packet is used, order accordingly and clearly document this.
· Ensure families are notified of any changes in residents condition, and are notified of hospital appointments, social work reviews, GP visits and their pertinent information. All such information must also be recorded in the residents care plans/ professional visits pages. Also document in the family pages that you have passed this information to the relatives concerned.
· Finally, you are responsible and accountable for your actions and omissions. Please communicate fully with relevant people at all times.
