Communications Strategy & Planning
Role Purpose
The Communications & Social Media Co-ordinator is responsible for developing and delivering clear, engaging, and consistent communications that reflect the vision, values, and mission of Generations Church and its ministries.
The role ensures that all internal and external communications across digital, social media, and print are aligned, well-coordinated, and effective in helping people discover the church, engage with its ministries, and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the leaders to develop and implement an integrated communications strategy for Generations Church and its ministries (Sunday Services, Young AdultsYouth, Children, Community Outreach, Bible Institute, Events).
- Maintain a rolling communications and content calendar aligned with the church calendar and leadership priorities.
- Translate leadership vision and ministry objectives into clear, compelling messaging.
- Ensure consistency of tone, theology, language, and branding across all platforms.
Social Media Management
- Manage the church’s social media channels (e.g. Website, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, X).
- Plan, create, schedule, and publish regular content, including posts, stories, reels, shorts, and campaigns.
- Promote:
- Sunday services and sermon series
- Special services and church-wide initiatives
- Youth, children, and community programmes
- Prayer, fasting, and discipleship seasons
- Monitor engagement and respond appropriately to messages and comments (oversee moderation).
- Track and report on key engagement metrics and audience growth.
Content Creation & Storytelling (Work with Social Media team)
- Capture and communicate stories of life change, testimony, outreach impact, and ministry growth.
- Write clear and engaging copy for:
- Social media posts
- Church announcements (videos and bulletins)
- Email communications (internal and external)
- Campaigns and promotions (internal and external)
- Website Updates (WordPress)
- Work with media and tech teams to curate:
- Sermon clips and highlights
- Testimony videos
- Event recap content
- Ensure all content is Christ-centred, hope-filled, and culturally relevant.
Visual Identity & Brand Oversight
- Uphold and protect the Generations Church brand identity across all ministries.
- Ensure consistent use of logos, colours, fonts, and visual standards.
- Oversee the creation and use of graphics for:
- Social media
- Service screens
- Website (WordPress)
- Flyers and promotional materials
- Coordinate photography and videography for services and events.
Internal and External Communications
- Coordinate weekly and seasonal announcements across platforms, including the website.
- Ensure church members and volunteers receive timely, clear, and accurate information.
- Work closely with ministry leaders (Youth, Children, Outreach and Discipleship) to support their communication needs.
- Help reduce confusion and information overload through clear prioritisation.
Collaboration & Team Leadership
- Work collaboratively with:
- Senior Pastor and Leadership Team
- Media & Tech Teams
- Ministry Leaders and Event Teams
- Train and support volunteers serving in communications and social media roles.
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and teamwork in communications.
Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor engagement, reach, and attendance trends linked to communications activity.
- Provide simple monthly or quarterly reports to leadership.
- Evaluate what is working and refine strategies accordingly.
- Stay up to date with digital communication trends relevant to church and ministry contexts.
Spiritual & Cultural Responsibilities
- Carry out the role with prayer, wisdom, and spiritual discernment.
- Communicate in a way that promotes unity, honours leadership, and reflects Christlike character.
- Exercise sensitivity in public messaging, particularly during pastoral or community matters.
- Model the values and culture of Generations Church in all communications.
Person Specification
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in communications and/or social media management.
- Strong written communication and storytelling skills.
- Good understanding of digital platforms and content scheduling tools.
- Ability to plan, organise, and manage multiple priorities.
- Alignment with the vision, values, and Christian faith of Generations Church.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including Sundays and key events.
Desirable
- Experience working in a church, charity, or community organisation.
- Basic graphic design or video editing skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe, CapCut).
- Experience managing volunteers.
- Understanding of safeguarding and appropriate online conduct.
