Smart Solutions are currently seeking an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver to join our client's team and play a vital role in their waste transport operations based in Sheffield.
Salary & Benefits
- £16.03 per hour for the first 43.75 hours per week (paid breaks included)
- Overtime paid at £24.05 per hour
- £25.00 per night out allowance
Earning Potential
- Based on a 60-hour working week, expected annual earnings on days are approximately £56,790
- With 4 nights out per week (48 weeks per year), total earnings can reach up to £61,590 per annum

The Role
Based from the Sheffield depot, you will be responsible for transporting waste materials safely and efficiently between sites. This is a key position supporting the smooth operation of waste management services while contributing to environmental sustainability goals.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday
- Day shifts, typically 6:00am – 6:00pm
- 50 contracted hours per week (including a 1-hour unpaid break per shift)
- Overtime available and paid at enhanced rates
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class 1 HGV vehicles for the collection, transportation, and delivery of waste materials.
- Plan and follow efficient routes to maximise productivity and minimise environmental impact.
- Complete daily vehicle checks and promptly report any defects.
- Maintain accurate records of collections, deliveries, and vehicle inspections using digital systems.
- Ensure compliance with all transport legislation, including Drivers' Hours Regulations and the Working Time Directive.
- Deliver excellent customer service at all collection and delivery points.
- Follow all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Valid UK HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) Licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Minimum 2 years' Class 1 driving experience.
- Previous experience within waste management, recycling, or a similar industry is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of vehicle safety and maintenance requirements.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with the transport team.

- Overtime paid after 45 hours worked per week:
- Monday to Friday: 1.3x hourly rate
- Saturdays: 1.5x hourly rate
- Bank Holidays: 2x hourly rate
