Junior Sous Chef
The Great Barr Hotel is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Junior Sous Chef to join our kitchen. Working closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality food across our restaurant, weddings, conferences, events and banqueting operations.

The successful candidate will lead by example, maintain high culinary standards, and help ensure the kitchen operates efficiently while delivering an exceptional dining experience for our guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
- Prepare, cook and present dishes to a consistently high standard in line with hotel specifications and recipes.
- Assist in delivering food for restaurant service, weddings, conferences, private functions and special events.
- Supervise and support junior members of the kitchen team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to the required standard.
- Help maintain effective kitchen organisation, ensuring a clean, safe and well-managed working environment.
- Monitor food quality, portion control and presentation to maintain consistency across all services.
- Assist with stock rotation, ordering, stock control and minimising food waste.
- Ensure all food is prepared and stored in accordance with food hygiene legislation and HACCP procedures.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations.
- Support the induction and training of new kitchen team members where required.
- Work collaboratively with the Restaurant, Events and Operations teams to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Be flexible in supporting different areas of the kitchen depending on business demands.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or Junior Sous Chef within a hotel, restaurant or similar hospitality environment.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and presentation.
- Experience working within high-volume service and event catering is desirable.
- Good understanding of food safety, HACCP procedures and kitchen hygiene standards.
- Ability to remain calm and organised under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required by the business.
