Overview
I am looking for a friendly, motivated person to join our family-run online toy and collectibles business as a Part-Time E-commerce Assistant.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves toys, pop culture, collecting or online retail, and wants to gain real hands-on experience in running an e-commerce business. You'll work closely with the owner, learning everything from order fulfilment and product listings to trading, marketing, social media and website management.
No previous experience is necessary—just a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and an eye for detail. I am initially looking at employing somebody for two 4-hour shifts each week, making it ideal for a school leaver, college or university student, or anyone looking to build practical business experience alongside their studies.
Responsibilities
Order Fulfilment (Highest Priority)
- Package all orders to a consistently high standard.
- Create shipping labels and complete order fulfilment.
- Arrange courier collections.
- Ensure orders are dispatched accurately and on time.
- Keep the packing station tidy and stocked with packaging materials.
Estimated orders to fulfil: 20–30 orders per shift (40–60 per week).
Website Trading
- Refresh the homepage and featured collections each week.
- Create themed collections (e.g. Doctor Who Week, Vintage Action Figures, Pokémon).
- Highlight new arrivals, price drops and slow-moving stock.
- Keep the website looking fresh with regular updates.
Email Marketing
- Create one customer email each week.
- Decide which products or collections deserve promotion.
- Write engaging copy and select attractive product images.
- Schedule the email campaign.
Instagram Content
- Photograph interesting products.
- Schedule 2–3 Instagram posts per week.
- Focus on building the Gold Dust Toys brand rather than direct selling.
- Aim for a creative, collector-focused aesthetic (no AI-generated content)
Community Engagement
- Participate in relevant Facebook groups and collector communities.
- Share interesting finds and contribute naturally to discussions.
- Identify opportunities to mention Gold Dust Toys where appropriate.
- Report back on active communities and trends.
Product Photography
- Photograph new arrivals.
- Create clean product images and lifestyle shots for social media.
Product Listing
- Add new products to the website as draft listings.
- Ensure products are categorised correctly and all key information/photographs are included.
- List miscellaneous and lower-priority stock on eBay.
- Flag any existing products that require pricing or additional information, particularly important for higher-value lines and trading cards.
Applying for the Role
To help us get to know you, please include the following with your application:
- A copy of your CV. If you don't have any previous work experience, that's absolutely fine—please include your education, predicted or achieved grades, hobbies, interests, volunteering, any clubs or activities you've been involved in, and any experience creating content or managing social media profiles/pages (personal or business) that you're proud of.
- A short personal statement (around 200 words) explaining:
- Why you're interested in working with Gold Dust Toys.
- What appeals to you about this role.
- What skills, interests or personal qualities you think would make you a great fit.
- Anything else you'd like us to know about yourself.
We're much more interested in finding someone enthusiastic, reliable and eager to learn than someone with lots of previous experience, so don't worry if this would be your first job.
