We are looking for a lovely, patient, kind support worker for people who have learning difficulties and disabilities who come to Pause Cat Cafe for supported training placements. Your role is to verbally guide and show the trainees tasks and to encourage them to try new things. Think of yourself as a cheerleader!
Here at Pause Cat Cafe, our mission is Kindness: kindness to animals, our community and our environment. Because of this, we offer training placements for people who have disabilities, learning difficulties and mental illness. Our trainees find that working at Pause gives them purpose, a way to get out and feel productive, and they are able to learn useful skills that can help them in their daily lives but also improve their work opportunities.
Our trainees love being at Pause, and we love putting smiles on their faces!
Some of our trainees require guidance to help them push themselves further and learn more new skills so they feel even more proud of their achievements and end their shift with an even bigger smile.
The types of tasks you’d be helping them to do are dependent on the trainees that you are matched with, but could include cat care (changing litter, health checks, cleaning, feeding and safeguarding) or cafe tasks (hosting and greeting customers, waiting tables, taking orders, washing up, wrapping cutlery) and may be either during the cafe’s opening hours or when we are closed. We provide on the job training in all of these tasks and induction including Food Hygiene and Health & Safety in the Workplace. As a Disability Confident Employer we provide training on working in a disability friendly workplace.
In addition to supporting people during their training, there are regular front of house shifts available involving hosting, making drinks (barista training provided) and serving tables.
Reliability and punctuality are essential. The successful candidate will have a love of cats and a passion for helping people. A good level of English is also required. You must be good with people and previous personal or professional experience to demonstrate this would be an asset. A calming demeanour and ability to explain tasks simply will help. Taking initiative and attention to detail are beneficial for the role.
All applicants must provide a cover letter with their application. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Please note we do not accept paper CVs. All applicants should apply via indeed or email.
