Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled gardening and lawn maintenance operative to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining outdoor spaces through lawn mowing, hedge trimming, and general landscape upkeep. This role offers an opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, applying practical skills in horticulture and landscape maintenance to ensure the aesthetic appeal and health of various outdoor areas.
Responsibilities
- Mowing lawns using petrol or electric mowers to maintain neat and healthy grassed areas
- Trimming hedges and shrubs with hand tools or powered hedge trimmers to shape and promote growth
- Pruning trees, bushes, and plants to encourage healthy development and visual appeal
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems to ensure efficient watering of landscapes
- Operating power tools such as leaf blowers, chainsaws, and edgers safely and effectively
- Assisting with landscape construction projects, including planting beds, pathways, and other features
- Conducting routine maintenance on gardening equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance
- Clearing debris, leaves, and waste from work sites to maintain tidy outdoor environments
Requirements
- Proven experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, or horticulture is preferred
- Mechanical knowledge related to garden machinery and power tools
- Ability to operate hand tools such as shears, spades, rakes, and shovels with precision
- Experience with specialised equipment such as excavators for larger landscaping projects is advantageous
- Knowledge of irrigation systems installation and maintenance
- Familiarity with construction principles relevant to outdoor projects is beneficial
- Good physical fitness with the ability to perform manual labour outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in maintaining outdoor spaces
- A valid driver’s licence is desirable for transporting equipment or moving between sites
