About the Role
We are seeking experienced roads policing Constables from UK Home Office police forces who already possess key specialist skills and are looking for a new and exciting challenge within the City of London Police. This recruitment round is specifically for current serving roads policing officers.
The ideal candidate will possess an enthusiastic and self-motivated attitude towards Roads Policing work and will be competent in managing serious injury collision investigations.
Once in post, the successful applicant must complete a transferee personal development portfolio to demonstrate operational competence. Some training may be delivered outside of the City of London.
There is an expectation that officers will remain in post for a minimum of 2 years due to the significant investment in training.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Be confirmed out of probation
- Police Advanced Driver
- Initial Phase Pursuit
- Roads policing skills / Traffic Law / Induction Course
- Minimum of 1 year operational experience within a Roads Policing Unit
- Proven investigation capability at PIP Level 1
- Must not be subject to any current performance or misconduct processes
Desirable Skills
- TPAC qualification
- Advanced or standard motorcycle qualifications
- Cat A/C/D DVLA licence
- Vehicle examination and prohibition
- Stinger (HoSTyDS)
- Commercial vehicle examination
- Tachograph examination
- LIO/RSM experience
- Taser X2 qualification
- Any additional specialist skills
About the Department
The City of London Police Roads Policing Unit is a specialist team responsible for maintaining safety and security across one of the busiest and most unique road networks in the UK.
Officers deliver education, enforcement and proactive policing to reduce casualties, promote road safety and deny criminals the use of the road. Officers also conduct investigations into serious and fatal road traffic collisions and provide expert pursuit capability.
Successful applicants will also be required to provide resilience to other departments including response policing and support large-scale public order events.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and investigate road-related incidents in line with legislation
- Deliver education initiatives to promote road safety
- Conduct proactive patrols using intelligence and ANPR
- Manage road incident scenes
- Use specialist driving skills to resolve failing to stop incidents
- Provide expertise on road traffic legislation
- Support enforcement and preventative policing
Essential Criteria
- Substantive Police Constable
- Valid DVLA driving licence
- Willingness to undertake pursuit training if required
- PIP Level 1 investigative capability
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- In-date officer safety and emergency aid training
- Operational flexibility
This role operates at Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
