About Us
Advanced Accountancy is an established and growing accountancy practice based in Kingswinford, with a close-knit team of 12 professionals. Due to continued growth and changes within our payroll department, we are seeking an experienced Payroll professional to join our team and take ownership of a portfolio of SME clients, delivering a high-quality, proactive payroll service.
This is a fully office-based role, and we welcome applications from candidates based locally.
The Role
This is a senior, hands-on payroll role suited to someone who is confident running payrolls end-to-end, providing practical and compliant advice to clients, and acting as a trusted payroll specialist within the firm.
You will take responsibility for a varied client portfolio and play a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing payrolls end-to-end across weekly, fortnightly and monthly cycles for a diverse SME client base
- Acting as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related queries and matters
- Providing proactive, tailored advice on PAYE, NIC, statutory payments, pensions, holiday entitlement and payroll compliance
- Calculating and advising clients on payroll-related liabilities due to HMRC and pension providers
- Preparing and submitting RTI filings accurately and on time
- Administering auto-enrolment pension duties, including assessment, contributions and liaison with pension providers
- Supporting year-end payroll processes, including P60s and P11Ds
- Keeping fully up to date with changes in payroll legislation and HMRC guidance, ensuring both client advice and internal processes remain compliant
- Proactively identifying risks, errors and opportunities for process improvement
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and strong internal controls
- Providing technical payroll support to the wider practice and assisting with ad-hoc projects as required
Skills & Experience Required
We are looking for a confident payroll professional who can genuinely operate as a payroll expert:
- Proven experience managing UK payrolls end-to-end, ideally within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau
- Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Confident advising clients and explaining payroll matters clearly and professionally
- Experience using Sage Payroll or similar payroll systems
- Strong understanding of auto-enrolment pensions
- Ability to manage multiple clients and work accurately to tight deadlines
- Strong Excel and general IT skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Proactive, self-motivated and able to work on their own initiative
- Professional and confident communicator
