Job Title
Greencable Operative (Class 2 Driver)
Company: Greencable Ltd
Location: Biggleswade (HQ Burntwood)
Employment type: Full-time/permanent
Start date: August 2026
Work schedule: Monday - Friday
Salary: £19.00 - £20.00 per hour
Company Overview
Do you want to be a part of the scrap metal revolution for trades?
Greencable was established at the end of 2019 and its mission is to make it easier than ever for trade professionals to recycle their scrap metal. We have a large and continually growing customer base up and down the country, each with at least one Greencable bin that they use to store non-ferrous metals (typically cable) acquired from their line of work. When their bin is full, they schedule Greencable to carry out a collection of their material. Essentially, Greencable is a scrap yard on wheels that caters exclusively for trade professionals.
Greencable has a growing number of drivers and vehicles in our fleet. Now we’re looking for an additional class 2 driver, we will be looking for specific attributes such as trustworthiness and a hard working nature as we place a significant emphasis on building the right team.
Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join Greencable at a significant stage in the company’s growth. As part of our expansion plans, we are establishing a satellite depot in Biggleswade to strengthen our operations across London, East Anglia and the South Coast. This site will be based ~100 miles away from Greencable’s HQ (Burntwood, South Staffordshire). The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting this growth and contribute directly to the development of this new region, making this a unique opportunity to join the business during an important phase of expansion.
While this position requires holding a Class 2 licence to operate a 12-tonne box lorry, it is primarily a labourer's role rather than a driving-focused job.
You will be responsible for a 12-tonne box lorry, which will be parked overnight at a secure HGV parking facility in Biggleswade. In addition, your personal vehicle will be allocated a dedicated parking space with 24/7 access, CCTV and security provided across the entire site. As Greencable continues to grow, there will be excellent opportunities for personal development and progression within the business.
You will be actively involved in the physical handling and processing of materials on the road. This solo role demands hands-on work in various tasks such as loading and unloading materials, sorting and processing scrap metal, and maintaining the organisation and cleanliness of the work environment. Driving is simply a means to facilitate job functions between locations, with the core of the work centred on labour-intensive activities.
All of our customer visits are managed by a route optimisation tool and our CRM system to ensure Greencable’s operation is smooth and efficient. There may be days on very rare occasions where you won’t be required to be on the road, on days like this, you may be expected to support other areas of the business, such as assisting the yard team at Greencable HQ. The role will involve overnight stays in hotels of up to 2 nights per week (fully subsidised).
