Reintegration Worker (EBSA)
Thurstable Satellite
Permanent | Full-Time
Scale 6 (Points 14–18)
What if your role wasn’t based in one classroom—but out in the community, meeting young people where they are, and helping them find their way back into education?
For some pupils, stepping through the school gates can feel overwhelming, even impossible. This role is about changing that. It’s about building trust, removing barriers, and walking alongside young people as they take those first steps back.
If you are passionate about supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, and you believe in the power of relationships to transform outcomes, this could be a truly meaningful opportunity.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated Reintegration Worker to support pupils experiencing EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), many of whom are currently unable to access mainstream education due to medical or SEMH needs.
This is a highly personalised and dynamic role. You will act as a consistent, visible advocate for each pupil—bridging the gap between home, school, and alternative provision, and ensuring every young person feels supported, understood, and ready to move forward.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Delivering bespoke, one-to-one support in a range of settings including homes, schools, and community spaces
- Building strong, trusting relationships through face-to-face mentoring that boosts confidence and engagement
- Supporting and managing each pupil’s reintegration journey back into education
- Acting as a key advocate, ensuring every pupil feels heard and understood
- Using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to support SEMH needs
- Working closely with families, including those who may be harder to engage, to build positive partnerships
- Collaborating with schools, SENCOs, and external agencies to ensure joined-up support
- Leading and contributing to multi-agency meetings and reviews
- Keeping accurate records and using data to proactively support pupil engagement
This is a role that goes far beyond routine—you will be out in the community, adapting your approach to meet each pupil’s needs, and celebrating every small step forward.
About You
We are looking for someone who is resilient, empathetic, and confident working in a highly relational role.
You will ideally:
- Have significant experience working with children or young people in education or care settings
- Understand trauma-informed practice and the impact of SEMH needs on engagement
- Be able to build strong relationships with both pupils and families, including those who may be harder to reach
- Remain calm and solution-focused in challenging or high-pressure situations
- Be highly organised, with strong communication and record-keeping skills
- Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as travel is essential to the role
Why This Role Is Different
- A truly varied role working across homes, schools, and the community
- The opportunity to build meaningful, lasting relationships with young people
- A focus on early intervention and positive reintegration
- The chance to see real, tangible progress in pupils who need it most
- A role where no two days are the same—and every day matters
