Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding long-term role where you can make a genuine difference to the lives of children with additional needs?
We are working with a specialist school in Swinton that supports pupils within Key Stage 2 with a range of special educational needs. The school is seeking a dedicated and reliable Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026 on a long-term basis, with the opportunity to secure a permanent contract for the right person.
This is a highly rewarding role supporting children with varying needs, including Autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and social, emotional and mental health challenges.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
- Help pupils develop their communication, social and emotional skills
- Promote independence and positive behaviour throughout the school day
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Support pupils during lessons, break times, and transitions throughout the day
- Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working within an SEN school, specialist provision, or alternative setting
- Experience supporting children with a range of additional needs
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Reliability and consistency are essential due to the individual needs of the pupils and the importance of maintaining positive relationships and routines
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Team Teach Training
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism
- Experience working with non-verbal or minimally verbal children
- Understanding of sensory regulation strategies
- Knowledge of behaviour support approaches and de-escalation techniques
