We are a hotel running on a traditional pair of narrowboats. This is a liveaboard role, the successful applicant will travel with the boats from now to the end of October as we visit places along the canal system of England, from our base in Warwick. In addition to the main role, the person will be chambermaiding and looking after our 8 guests, working with three other crew, and will have the opportunity to learn how to steer our butty boat and work the boats along the canal. This is a unique post and a wonderful chance for an adventure, seeing the country from a new angle.
We serve set meals to our guests. The post holder will be trained in preparing the meals. As well as wages, accommodation, all food and a free laundry service is provided, and there are usually generous tips from our guests. There is paid time off between each cruise, when the chef has a chance to go home or have friends and family visit. There is also two weeks paid holiday (subject to cover).
You should be fit and healthy, a team player, able to work on your own initiative, have good cooking skills and be available immediately. Previous applicants are welcome to re-apply.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a diverse range of dishes according to recipes and quality standards
- Ensure all food is prepared in line with food safety regulations and hygiene standard
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area at all times
- Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management
- Collaborate with team members to deliver efficient service during busy periods
- Serve food to customers in a professional and friendly manner
- Follow health and safety procedures diligently to prevent accidents or contamination
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking within a professional kitchen environment
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques and meal presentation
- Familiarity with food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Good communication skills to work effectively within a team
- Experience in restaurant or hospitality settings is highly desirable
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and customer needs
