Cover Cook – Early Years Setting
We are looking for a reliable Cover Cook to support our setting during staff absence. This role includes guaranteed hours during school holidays, with additional cover required when our regular cook is unavailable. Responsibilities include preparing and serving nutritious, balanced meals suitable for young children, maintaining food hygiene standards, and supporting the overall professional kitchen operation. Flexibility and an understanding of children’s dietary needs are essential.
Duties
- Prepare ingredients and cook meals according to specified recipes and standards
- Ensure all food is prepared safely, adhering to food safety regulations and hygiene practices
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, work surfaces, and storage areas
- Support with inventory management, including stock rotation and ordering supplies as needed
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely service during busy periods
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times to prevent accidents or contamination
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking within a professional kitchen environment
- Strong understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
- Previous experience in a nursery or catering setting is highly desirable
