We’re looking for a Treasury & Funding Senior Accountant to join our Treasury team on a 14‑month fixed-term contract.
This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in managing over £100m of internal commercial lending and overseeing the £1.6bn funds ledger, directly influencing how funding is allocated across the organisation. You’ll be at the heart of key financial decisions - reviewing and challenging investment proposals, allocating funding to high‑impact projects, and monitoring performance to ensure expected returns are delivered.
We’re a large and complex charity, but our purpose is simple: to care for special places so people and nature can thrive. The income we generate is reinvested into conservation and access, creating a virtuous circle that underpins everything we do. Strong, sustainable finances are critical to achieving this and Treasury plays a vital role in making it happen.
What it's like to work here:Treasury is a motivated and collaborative team of nine, supporting everything from individual properties through to Trustee-level decision making. Our work spans investment management, cash flow forecasting, external financing, internal lending and oversight of a complex funds environment.
We’re a small but agile team that works closely together to deliver high-quality insight, effective financing solutions and continuous process improvement. You’ll have the opportunity to shape how we work, contribute new ideas and get involved in a wide variety of activities across the function.
Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You’ll be required to work at a National Trust location for 40% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.
What you'll be doing:You’ll play a key role in delivering the Commercial Loan programme, reviewing and robustly challenging business cases for new projects, agreeing funding allocations and monitoring performance against expectations. You’ll ensure loans are accurately administered, reported and aligned to project outcomes.
You’ll also oversee the accurate and efficient management of the £1.6bn funds ledger, supervising Assistant Accountants and improving processes to optimise the use and accessibility of restricted funds.
Alongside this, you’ll contribute to wider Treasury activity including cash management, forecasting and stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships across the organisation. You’ll also support the development of new approaches and initiatives as Treasury evolves to meet future strategic priorities.
Who we're looking forWe’re looking for a qualified accountant with strong commercial acumen and the confidence to challenge, influence and engage senior stakeholders.
You’ll bring experience of business case appraisal and investment analysis, with the ability to assess financial assumptions and identify value-adding opportunities.
You’ll also have:
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex data
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive, organised approach and the ability to take initiative
- Strong systems skills, including finance systems and Microsoft Office
Above all, you’ll be motivated by using your expertise to deliver commercial value and meaningful improvements while supporting a purpose-driven organisation.
