Medicines Counter Assistant (MCA) – Join Our Community Pharmacy Team

At Birk and Nagra Pharmacy, we have proudly served the communities of Leamington and Warwick since 1979. We are now looking for a full-time Medicines Counter Assistant (MCA) to join our friendly and supportive team.
This is a permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week), working Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday cover.
About the Role
The Medicines Counter Assistant is a key member of the pharmacy team. You will often be the first person many customers see when coming into the pharmacy — whether they are seeking healthcare advice, collecting or ordering a prescription, or looking for help purchasing a medicine.
You will:
- Provide advice to patients on a wide range of minor ailments and appropriately recommend over-the-counter medicines, knowing when to refer to the pharmacist
- Handle customer queries and prescription collections at the counter
- Work as part of a close team under the supervision of a responsible pharmacist, who is always available should you need to refer a patient or seek guidance
- Assist with stock management and general pharmacy operations
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is approachable, self-motivated, and passionate about delivering excellent customer service.
You will have:
- Previous retail or customer service experience (pharmacy experience is an advantage, but not essential)
- A friendly, professional, and customer-focused approach
- Excellent communication skills and good literacy and numeracy
- The ability to prioritise your workload and carry out multiple tasks efficiently
- Confidence using computers (e.g. for stock control and prescription management)
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to provide occasional Saturday cover and support across branches if required
- A willingness to complete MCA training and comply with pharmacy regulation requirements
Training & Development
If you have not already completed an MCA qualification, you will be supported in enrolling on an accredited Level 2 Medicines Counter Assistant qualification, which we expect you to complete within your first year.
This role is an excellent entry point into the healthcare sector. For those looking to develop further, there is the opportunity to progress towards a dispensing role and an NVQ Level 2 qualification as a pharmacy dispenser.
