Fuel Systems / Tank Cleaning Engineer – Fuel Management & Critical Infrastructure
SDM Fuel Solutions Ltd is expanding its engineering services team and is looking for experienced, practical and reliable engineers to support our fuel tank cleaning, fuel polishing, fuel sampling, fuel transfer and critical infrastructure works.
We work with major commercial clients, data centres, generator companies and mission-critical sites where safety, quality, professionalism and clear documentation matter.
This is not a basic maintenance role. You will be working in a specialist sector where fuel quality, backup power resilience and site standards are critical to client operations.
The role would suit someone with experience in tank cleaning, fuel systems, mechanical engineering, industrial services, generator support, pump work, drainage, confined space work, tanker operations or similar practical engineering environments.
The role will involve:
- Fuel tank cleaning and fuel system maintenance
- Fuel polishing and filtration works
- Fuel sampling, inspection and contamination checks
- Fuel uplift, transfer and fuel management works
- Working on commercial and critical power fuel systems
- Supporting works on data centres and mission-critical sites
- Using specialist pumps, hoses, filtration units and fuel management equipment
- Completing site documentation, photographs, videos and job checklists
- Following SDM standard operating procedures and site-specific requirements
- Working safely under RAMS, permits and client site rules
- Supporting junior engineers and trainees on site
- Travelling to client sites across the UK when required
Experience that would suit this role:
This role would suit candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Fuel systems
- Tank cleaning
- Fuel polishing
- Generator servicing or generator support
- Mechanical engineering
- Industrial services
- Pump work
- Drainage or interceptor cleaning
- Confined space work
- Plant fitting
- HGV, ADR or tanker operations
- Commercial maintenance
- Critical power environments
- Ex-forces mechanical or engineering background
You do not need to know every part of the SDM service offering on day one. We will train the right person in our systems, processes and specialist methods.
Development pathway:
This role is designed for someone who already has practical experience and wants to move into a more specialist, higher-value engineering career.
Stage 1 – Fuel Systems / Tank Cleaning Engineer
You will deliver tank cleaning, fuel polishing, sampling, transfer and site support works safely and professionally.
Stage 2 – Senior Fuel Systems Engineer
You will take on more complex fuel systems work, support critical infrastructure sites, mentor trainees, and become trusted to manage more technical site requirements.
Stage 3 – Lead Engineer
You will progress into running site teams, leading jobs, managing engineers on site, checking documentation, controlling safety standards and representing SDM professionally with clients.
Stage 4 – Specialist Critical Infrastructure Engineer
You may develop into specialist areas such as data centre fuel resilience, large-scale fuel system projects, planned maintenance contracts, emergency response works or fuel quality management.
Stage 5 – UK & European Project Delivery
As SDM continues to grow, there will be opportunities to work on larger contracts, UK-wide programmes and future European client sites.
Training and qualifications may include:
- SDM specialist fuel systems training
- Fuel polishing and filtration training
- Fuel sampling and contamination awareness
- Fuel tank cleaning procedures
- Critical infrastructure site training
- Confined space training where required
- OFTEC qualification pathway where appropriate
- Site safety and RAMS training
- Pump, hose, filtration and transfer equipment training
- Client-specific data centre and critical site training
- Class 2 / ADR progression where appropriate
- Leadership and site supervision training for progression routes
