We are currently recruiting a Yard / Goods In Operative to join our busy warehouse operation in Buttington, Welshpool. This is a varied, hands-on role that is essential to the smooth and efficient running of our yard and warehouse functions.
Role Overview
The Yard / Goods In Operative will be responsible for the safe receipt, handling, storage and movement of goods across the yard and warehouse. The role involves working both indoors and outdoors, carrying out manual handling tasks, operating a forklift truck and working closely with colleagues across multiple warehouse departments to ensure goods flow efficiently through the business.
Key Responsibilities
Goods In and Yard Operations
- Loading and unloading delivery and collection vehicles safely, both manually and using a counterbalance forklift truck
- Checking incoming goods against delivery notes and reporting any discrepancies, shortages or damages
- Accurately recording delivery and collection information using computer systems and manual documentation
- Allocating stock to the correct yard or warehouse locations in line with company procedures
Order Preparation and Stock Control
- Picking, preparing and staging orders ready for delivery or customer collection
- Maintaining appropriate stock levels within yard areas and communicating any stock issues to relevant departments
- Ensuring stock is stored securely and appropriately to prevent damage or loss
Yard Management and Health & Safety
- Assisting with the day-to-day management of the yard, ensuring it remains tidy, organised and safe at all times
- Directing delivery drivers to the correct loading bays and ensuring safe vehicle movements within the yard
- Identifying potential hazards and maintaining consistently high standards of health and safety
- Complying with all company policies, procedures and legal requirements
Cross-Departmental Working
- Working closely with multiple departments within the warehouse, including Goods In, Picking, Dispatch and Stock Control and returns
- Supporting colleagues across departments during busy periods to help meet operational deadlines
- Communicating effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure accurate stock movement and efficient workflow
- Adapting to changing priorities and assisting where required to support overall warehouse performance

Requirements
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck Certificate
- Clean UK driving licence
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Training and Development
Charlies Stores has two RTITB-qualified instructors within the business who can provide refresher training or additional forklift training to the successful candidate where required.
Pay: £30,000.00-£31,647.00 per year
