We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our committed team within a children's residential home in Maidstone.
About the Role
As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operation of the home, ensuring children and young people receive high-quality care in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment.
You will lead by example, providing guidance and support to staff while promoting positive outcomes for children and young people. In the absence of the Registered Manager, you will take responsibility for the effective management of the home and ensure standards remain consistently high.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager with the effective running of the home.
- Lead, supervise and support the staff team to deliver person-centred childcare.
- Manage staff rotas, training, supervisions, appraisals and performance management.
- Support children and young people with their physical, emotional and psychological development.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are followed at all times.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and statutory documentation.
- Promote positive behaviour support and guide staff in managing behaviours that challenge.
- Ensure compliance with Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and relevant legislation.
- Work in partnership with families, social workers and other professionals.
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call system.
- Support quality assurance processes and address actions arising from inspections and monitoring reports.
- Undertake administrative duties necessary for the effective running of the home.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- At least one year's experience working within a residential childcare setting.
- At least one year's experience in a Team Leader or Deputy Manager role.
- Experience supervising and supporting staff.
- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care with Children and Young People.
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C (or equivalent) and above.
- Experience supporting children and young people who have experienced trauma and social and emotional difficulties.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to remain calm, adaptable and professional in challenging situations.
- A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and continuous professional development.
Desirable
- Level 5 Qualification in Leadership and Management in Children's Services.
- Experience attending Child in Care Reviews, Care Planning Meetings and Strategy Meetings.
- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches to childcare.
- Knowledge of children's and adolescents' mental health needs.
- Current driving licence.
