Assistant Chef
£13-14 per hour, depending on experience
We have an exciting Assistant Chef opportunity at our Nursery and Preschool in Archway, North London. The role is for a full time, up to 32 hours per week, Monday to Friday, year round, as follows:
Monday: 7.45 – 3.15 pm
Tuesday: 7.45 – 3.15 pm
Wednesday: 7.45 – 3.15 pm
Thursday: 7.45 – 5.30pm
Friday: 7.45 – 3.15 pm
You are welcome to take a 30 minute paid break plus optional additional 30 mins unpaid on any day. The break has to be taken at a quieter time, in agreement with the Chef.
We provide fresh food cooked from source, from a menu created by the Chef. Good culinary skills are required with a passion for giving children the best possible meal time experience. You will be working with a team of dinner supervisors and will report directly to the Chef and Nursery Manager.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Some experience of working in a school or nursery with children that have dietary requirements is desirable. We are happy to train someone who has had experience with dietary requirements in another field.
- Provide very good standards in all aspects of food service, attention to detail is vital
- Proven track record in a high volume, quality catering establishment
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Positive attitude and 'can-do' approach
- Proven track record of continually maintaining standards and achieving targets is essential
This is a child/staff facing position so in addition to the above you will also need good communication skills and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of written and spoken English.
You must hold a current basic food hygiene certificate, or be willing to undertake training to achieve this
Roles and responsibilities include:
- Working alongside the head chef on a daily basis
- Checking dietary requirements every meal
- Planning and cooking a wide and varied menu suitable for the children, taking into account dietary needs , whether preference, medical or religious, which should be discussed with management on a weekly basis.
- Keeping the kitchen in a clean and organised manner including all appliances, and cleaning the kitchen after lunch
- Covering for the senior cook as and when required, including completing all necessary paperwork.
- Supporting the children and staff in the serving of food
- Interacting with children at meal times, encouraging positive eating habits and table manners
- Adhering to our Health and Safety policy as well as all other policies and procedures
