Motor Parts Direct is looking for an accomplished, commercially focused Marketing Director to define and lead the next phase of our marketing strategy.
This is a high-impact senior leadership role for someone who can combine brand building, customer insight, digital capability and disciplined commercial execution. You will lead the marketing team and work closely with Sales, Commercial, Operations, Branch Leadership and key suppliers.
Your brief is clear: strengthen the MPD customer proposition, increase customer acquisition and retention, grow share of wallet, and ensure that marketing investment delivers measurable revenue, gross profit and customer loyalty.
THE OPPORTUNITY
MPD operates in a fast-moving, highly competitive market where customers expect strong availability, local service, compelling value and simple digital interactions. You will turn these strengths into a distinctive, consistent brand and a repeatable growth engine across the branch network.
CUSTOMER GROWTH
Acquire, activate, retain and reactivate customers while increasing spend and share of wallet.
BRAND & PROPOSITION
Build a stronger, more consistent MPD brand and a clear reason for customers to choose us.
DIGITAL & CRM
Use customer data, segmentation and digital channels to create more relevant, timely engagement.
COMMERCIAL IMPACT
Make every campaign accountable for revenue, gross profit, retention and return on investment.
WHAT YOU WILL LEAD
- Strategy and planning: Create and deliver a three-year marketing strategy and annual plan aligned to MPD’s revenue, gross profit, operating profit and customer-growth objectives.
- Brand and Customer Proposition: Define and strengthen the MPD brand, customer promise, messaging and visual consistency across every channel and branch.
- Customer acquisition and retention: Build an insight-led CRM and lifecycle programme covering acquisition, onboarding, activation, retention, reactivation, cross-sell and loyalty.
- National and local campaigns: Plan and execute national, regional & branch-level activity with clear objectives, strong sales activation and measurable outcomes.
- Digital Growth: Own the digital roadmap across website, e-commerce, email, social, search, paid media & customer data.
- Product & Category Marketing: Support priority ranges, product launches and own-brand propositions with compelling campaigns, branch materials and sales tools.
- Commercial Partnerships: Work with suppliers and internal commercial teams to develop high-impact, co-funded campaigns that deliver mutual value.
- Measurement and ROI: Create clear dashboards and attribution, using test and learn principles to improve effectiveness and stop activity that does not deliver.
- Market Intelligence: Translate customer insight, competitor activity and market trends into practical commercial opportunities.
- Team & Capability: Lead, coach & develop the marketing team establishing clear priorities, accountability and high standards of delivery.
- Budget and Partners: Own the marketing budget and manage agencies, technology partners and suppliers with strong commercial discipline.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- A clear, commercially grounded marketing strategy that is understood across the business and translated into an executable annual plan.
- Growth in active customers, retention, average spend, category penetration and customer share of wallet.
- A stronger, more consistent MPD brand and customer experience across branches, sales teams and digital channels.
- Campaigns that demonstrate incremental revenue, gross profit and return on investment rather than activity for activity’s sake.
- Higher levels of digital engagement, more effective use of customer data and stronger supplier-funded marketing programmes.
- A capable, focused marketing team with clear objectives and strong cross-functional relationships.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Proven success in a senior marketing leadership role, ideally within a multi-site, distribution, trade, retail, B2B or B2B2C environment.
- A strong commercial mindset, with evidence of linking marketing investment to sales, gross profit, customer value and business performance.
- Experience spanning brand strategy, customer proposition, CRM, digital, performance marketing and campaign delivery.
- The ability to move confidently between long-term strategy and hands-on execution in a fast-paced operating business.
- Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to work effectively at senior leadership and branch level.
- Strong analytical judgement and confidence using customer and commercial data to prioritise decisions.
- A record of building teams, managing budgets and getting the best from agencies and external partners.
- Automotive aftermarket experience is highly desirable; strong experience in a comparable trade or distribution environment will also be considered.
- A willingness to travel across the MPD branch network as the role requires.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
- Competitive bonus scheme
- Company Vehicle
- 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service
- Birthday leave after one year’s service
- Death in Service benefit
- Optional Bupa healthcare
- The opportunity to shape strategically important function and influence MPD’s next phase of growth
