Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support students within secondary schools across Sunderland, Hartlepool and South Shields. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and support staff to help students access learning, engage in lessons and achieve their full potential. Opportunities are available on a daily supply, short-term and long-term basis, offering flexibility to suit a range of experience levels and availability.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people, building positive relationships and making a difference in the classroom. Experience working with children or young people is desirable, particularly within an educational setting, although training and support can be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teachers in delivering lessons and classroom activities.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students who require additional assistance.
- Assist students with their academic, social and emotional development.
- Encourage student engagement, participation and confidence within the classroom.
- Support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) where required.
- Help manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
- Prepare learning resources and assist with classroom organisation.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Supervise students during lessons, break times or educational activities when required.
- Promote a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and other support staff.
- Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- A patient, supportive and proactive approach.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant (LSA) or Support Worker.
- Experience supporting students with SEND, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH or learning difficulties.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, Childcare or Education-related qualifications.
- Experience working within a secondary school environment.

Pay: £108.50-£140.00 per day
