Our mission
Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy crisis. We are in pole position to become a world leader in SMRs and the UK’s premier green export technology.
The team
The Ground Engineering team plays a critical role in enabling safe, efficient, and site-specific deployment of our SMR technology. Operating at the intersection of civil design, geoscience, and nuclear safety, the team delivers innovative geotechnical solutions that underpin some of the most complex infrastructure challenges in the programme.
The role
In this context, we are looking for a Lead Engineer – Geotechnical to join our growing Ground Engineering team, leading technical delivery across major site-specific design programmes including GBE-N and ČEZ. Managing a team of engineers and specialists, this is a pivotal role shaping design assurance, technical direction, and the successful integration of complex geotechnical solutions across our flagship projects.
Key responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Providing technical leadership and governance for geotechnical deliverables supporting site‑specific design, ensuring alignment with programme objectives.
Leading geotechnical design across multiple site areas, including the Reactor Island, Cooling Water Island, and Balance of Plant (BoP). This includes overseeing the geotechnical design for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks, tunnelling, retaining walls, seismic, coastal and offshore infrastructure.
Managing the scope, specification, supervision, and interpretation of ground investigations.
Characterising and interpreting site data to develop robust ground models and design parameters.
Leading the delivery of geotechnical analyses, design outputs, reporting, and supporting the associated safety justification.
Managing programme resourcing and cost control to support successful project delivery.
The role will also include managing defined packages of work, assuring the robustness and validity of technical solutions developed under their direction, mentoring junior engineers, and coordinating closely with interfacing disciplines to ensure integrated design delivery.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders and multidisciplinary design teams, and to build and maintain effective professional working relationships.
