Kitchen Porter — Job Overview
Hanawata is seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our kitchen team at our Japanese Donburi & Izakaya restaurant in Cannon Street, London. The Kitchen Porter will play an important role in keeping the kitchen clean, organised, and ready for smooth daily service.
This role is suitable for someone who is practical, efficient, and willing to learn. Previous kitchen or restaurant experience is beneficial but not essential, as training will be provided. We are looking for applicants who can follow instructions carefully, work quickly during busy periods, and support the chefs and wider kitchen team with a positive attitude.
Duties
- Wash dishes, pans, trays, utensils, and kitchen equipment during and after service.
- Keep the kitchen, washing area, storage areas, and staff areas clean and organised.
- Support chefs by ensuring clean equipment is available throughout service.
- Dispose of rubbish and recycling safely and regularly.
- Clean floors, surfaces, bins, fridges, and kitchen equipment according to hygiene standards.
- Assist with basic food preparation when required, such as washing vegetables, peeling, chopping simple ingredients, or portioning items.
- Help receive, organise, and store deliveries correctly.
- Follow food hygiene, health and safety, and cleaning procedures at all times.
- Report any broken equipment, safety issues, or stock shortages to senior kitchen staff.
- Support the wider kitchen team during busy periods and complete tasks given by the Head Chef, Sous Chef, or senior chefs.
Required Job Experience
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter, kitchen assistant, cleaner, or restaurant staff member is preferred but not mandatory.
- Applicants should be able to learn quickly and follow instructions accurately.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and safe working practices is beneficial.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good attention to cleanliness, organisation, and safety.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and carry out cleaning and washing tasks.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are expected.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support the team are essential.
Pay: £12.50-£13.50 per hour
